Federal Boulevard will be limited to one lane in each direction from Evans to 6th Avenues Friday through Sunday.

Racing chihuahuas, lowrider cars and other Mexican cultural performances will take over downtown Denver this weekend, including some of the city's streets.

The Cinco de Mayo “Celebrate Culture” Festival and Parade — held by the NEWSED Community Development Corporation — will take place at Civic Center Park from Saturday morning till Sunday evening, causing a plethora of road closures near the area.

The initial street closures will begin Friday at 6 a.m. in preparation for the weekend festivities, Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) said.

These closures will include:

  • Bannock Street from 13th to 14th Avenues
  • 14th Avenue from Cherokee Street to Broadway

The following streets will close at 6 p.m. Friday:

  • Both directions of Colfax Avenue from Cherokee Street to Lincoln Street,
  • 14th Street from Court Place to Colfax Avenue
  • 15th Street from Colfax Ave to Cleveland Place
  • Cheyenne from Broadway to Colfax Avenue

The following streets will close at 7 p.m. Friday:

  • Broadway from 16th Street to 13th Avenue
  • 14th Avenue from Broadway to Lincoln Street

All the listed streets will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, according to the department.

There will be no parking allowed on the closed streets during the weekend festivities.

Federal Boulevard will also be reduced to one lane each direction between 6th Avenue and West Evans Avenue from Friday to Sunday, according to the Denver Police Department.

The road restrictions will allow "first responders to quickly move to where they are needed in a proactive manner," the department said.

Any violations that pose a safety risk will be strictly enforced, the department added. The traffic ordinances along Federal Boulevard will include sound ordinance violations, both from stereos and excessive horn honking.

The city juvenile curfew ordinance will also be enforced over the weekend. Anyone under 18 years-old will be subject to curfew enforcement beginning at midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 11 p.m. on Sunday, the department concluded.
