As Colorado's tallest free-falling waterfall, Bridal Veil Falls stands at 365 feet just outside of Telluride.

Visitors can hike, bike, or drive to get close to the base of the waterfall. According to All Trails, a hiking trail that travels to the falls is 2 miles out-and-back, considered to be 'moderately challenging' with close to 900 feet of vertical gain.

A historic power plant sits at the top of the waterfall, and it most recently has provided about a quarter of Telluride's electricity. According to Uncover Colorado, the power plant used to power the Smuggler-Union Mine and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

To get to the waterfalls, start in Telluride and take Colorado Avenue toward the east side of the Box Canyon. You'll continue past the Pandora Mill site to the base of the falls. After that, you can either hike up the road or the Bridal Veil Falls trail. You can drive to the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls, but you'll need a four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicle.

The hike to Bridal Veil Falls is a reminder of Colorado's raw beauty and the state's ever-present opportunity for outdoor recreation and adventure.
