The Rockies flew into Mexico City on Thursday and lost in Saturday's first game of a two-day tilt with the Astros.

Colorado saw a pair of big hits put it ahead before the Astros collected every big hit — 15 in total — after, led by Yordan Álvarez's two home runs. It was part of 10 allowed by the staff in the lopsided loss.

Astros 12, Rockies 4

What happened: The Rockies jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Yordan Álvarez’s two home runs led the Astros to a game-one rout in Mexico.

On the mound: Cal Quantrill allowed a pair of Astros home runs as part of six earned runs allowed in five innings. Victor Vodnik and Tyler Kinley allowed six combined runs, in a portion off Álvarez's second home run.

At the plate: Ezequiel Tovar singled to lead off the game and Ryan McMahon drove him in with a no-doubt home run as most of Colorado’s offensive output. The Rockies struck out 14 times, led by Tovar’s four after the first-inning hit.

What’s next: Houston Astros (LHP Framber Valdez, 0-0) at Colorado Rockies (LHP Austin Gomber, 0-1) at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, Mexico City in Mexico (ESPN).
