Russ Caton was named men’s basketball coach at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Tuesday. Caton, 30, was the top assistant coach at Adams State College the last two seasons. Adams State, like UCCS, is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. A 1993 graduate of Alamosa High School, he played two years at Northeastern Junior College, one year at Utah State and one season at Adams State. Caton was an All-State player while helping Alamosa High win two state championships. “There’s no doubt in my mind Russ Caton is the right man for the job,” UCCS athletics director Steve Kirkham said. “He has a great work ethic, has Colorado connections and has a strong moral fiber. Plus, he’s coached in our conference, which is very important.”
